Call to action against fascist US-Duterte dictatorship

We are calling on the Filipino youth and people to mount intensified protests against a fully unravelled US-Duterte fascist dictatorship. The call for justice for Kian Loyd Delos Santos, 17-year-old victim of mad president Rodrigo Duterte’s anti-drug war that has claimed close to 13,000 people, is a call for justice for all the victims of the ruling regime’s rabid campaign of mass killings and fascist attacks against the Filipino people.

From the very beginning, the mad bloodthirsty Duterte already harbored ambitions of becoming dictator of the country. He has taken steps to realize his dictatorial ambitions by launching three wars: the war on drugs, the war on terror and martial law, and the all-out war against the communist movement and Filipino people — all of which are trained against his political enemies and the people’s militant and revolutionary struggles.

Duterte has clearly become a puppet of US imperialism in spite of anti-US posturings and overtures to China and Russia which are just meant to gain foreign investment and aid from the two US rivals rather than fully cut lopsided relations with the US. In truth, one-sided treaties military treaties like the VFA, EDCA, and MLSA remain in place while US military bases and US troops in Philippine soil continue to multiply.

The US-Duterte dictatorship furthermore implements neoliberal policies dictated by the US-International Monetary Fund-World Bank that intensify liberalization, privatization, deregulation in order to further push down wages, impose new taxes, guarantee profits for big business. This has meant the continuation of contractualization and low wages, the non-distribution of land to the farmers, and other measures that keep the domestic economy backward, pre-industrial, and foreign-dominated.

The Filipino youth and students’ sustained campaign for free education and massive protest actions forced Duterte to sign the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act. However, it is clear that this palliative reform does not solve the basic problems afflicting the education system which remains colonial, commercialized, and fascist. Philippine education continues to serve the interests of foreign and private business from the basic to tertiary levels.

We continue our calls for the stopping of collection for tuition and other school fees, for the junking of the colonial and burdensome K-12 program, against the planned imposition of mandatory ROTC for senior high school students, and in opposition to the entry of Duterte’s bloody Oplan Tokhang in schools.

Amidst the worsening crisis of a semi-colonial and semi-feudal society and the intensifying attacks of the fascist US-Duterte dictatorship, the Filipino youth and people have no other recourse but to advance the struggle for national democracy with a socialist perspective. Let us join the following days of protest:
