CEGP welcomes quashing of arrest warrants against Makabayan 4
The College Editors Guild of the Philippines welcomes the dismissal of the trumped-up double murder cases and the quashing of arrest warrants against four former legislators of the Makabayan bloc namely: former Bayan Muna representatives Satur Ocampo and Teddy Casino, former Anakpawis representative and agrarian reform secretary Rafael Mariano and former Gabriela representative and current National Anti-Poverty Commission chair Liza Masa.
While we celebrate the dismissal of their arrest warrants, we must hold the Philippine National Police accountable in launching a ludicrous manhunt against the former lawmakers who have been incessantly persecuted based on the already dismissed trumped-up charges. In addition, groups who launched a raising of bounty which also endangered the lives of the lawmakers, should also be held accountable. More importantly, we should resist the Duterte regime’s continuing crackdown against progressives and activists fighting against his repressive and tyrannical regime.
The College Editors Guild of the Philippines is one with the struggle of the Filipino people in calling for an end to political persecution, crackdown against activists and the release of all political prisoners.
