Duterte give dogs a bad name
Hours before the Lunar New Year ends, Duterte will still be the number one breed in being a lapdog to imperialist countries like the United States and China
PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte, a paper tiger and cheap dictator wannabe, is a lackey who turned the Philippine government as a neo-colonial client-state of the United States and its other imperialist rival China.
Duterte has probably choked all of his anti-US tirades in the past and has betrayed the Filipino people by his full-fledged servility to the economic and security policies of the United States.
As a lackey of the United States, he has not made a single step to abrogate the unequal military treaties between the Philippines and the US, particularly the Visiting Forces Agreement, Enhanced Defense Cooperation, Mutual Defense Treaty and others. Last 2017, he has permitted at least 257 joint excercises with the US military. In addition, more than 2,500 troops entered the country last May to conduct war games, joint maneuvers, live-fire exercises and even undertook psychological warfare activities such as token school building repair, hygiene workshops and others.
Duterte is also salivating over neoliberal economic policies. Currently, the country follows the dominant neoliberal policy of the US-International Monetary Fund-World Bank triad. Far from the needs and legitimate demands of the Filipino people to break free from years of economic torture, Duterte’s 10-point economic agenda and the “Philippine Development Plan 2017–2022” is nothing but a copy of development plans of former puppet regimes patterened after IMF-WB blueprints.
While heavily salivating on returns from neoliberal policies, he has maintained to champion the interest of imperialist countries by perpetuating a policy of cheap and suppressed labor and has refused to listen to the rightful demands of workers for a just wage. His neoliberal policies also put peasants in a deleterious state by converting vast tracts of lands to plantations operated by foreign companies.
Meanwhile, the passage of the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN), a reform that is meant to patch the country’s two-decades old tax law, proves that Duterte has reached the pinnacle of his fascist attacks against the Filipino people, only augmenting their suffering to an unimaginable extent.
The overhauling of the country’s tax law, especially its goal to look “attractive” to foreign investors, is done at the expense of the lives of the Filipino people. TRAIN was ratified by Congress without proper deliberation — an actual manifestation that Duterte is pressured to devise a tax reform program that will comply with policy recommendations of the United States under the Partnership for Growth project (PFG). PFG only aggravates the already deleterious imperialist intervention in the Philippines. In fact, the Philippines is the only country in Asia to be part of this US project, tied up with US Agency for International Development, the Millennium Challenge Corporation, and the International Monetary Fund-World Bank.
Duterte greatly deceived and betrayed the Filipino people. He is servile to US imperialism and even bends his knees to China. His strongman tactics are just tactics of the mouth. This is why with the growing ardent strength of the Filipino mass movement, Duterte has no way to go but down.
